Sponge:
Encrusting to massive.
Surface: smooth to minutely granular with deep grooves which delineate round or oblong lobes, variable.
Oscula: 1.0-3.5 mm, in clusters, often with collar.
Color: Alive: Dark chocolate brown - reddish brown. Preserved: Beige, mottled with grey.

Ectosome: Dermal membrane 4 - 6 mm,difficult to see. Penetrated by spicule brushes from ectosomal columns of Styles 20-30 spicules thick. Columns connected by loose bundles of 3-6 megascleres.
Choanosome: a regular isotropic reticulation of bundles of megascleres, 2-10 spicules thick.
Distribution: Central California.
Depth: Subtidal to deep water, 26 to 46 m.
