Sponge: Encrusting to 10 mm thick. Consistency: compressible, fragile. Surface: with numerous ridges, depressions, and cavernous space, slightly rough.
Color: Tan, ?Alive.
Spicules: Megascleres: (1)Acanthostyles: 280 -300- 320 um. 10 -13- 13 um. (2)Subtylostyles: 180 -264- 310 um. x 4 -10- 13 um. (3)Styles: 170 -236- 270 um. x 3 -3- 5 um. Microscleres: (1)Palmate Anisochelae: 15 -27- 43 um. (2)Bipocillates: 13 -16- 20 um.
Skeleton: Ectosome: Dermis with Subtylotes arranged parallel to surface in linear tracts or irregularly distributed. Choanosome: Dense reticulation of Acanthostyles, 1-2 spicules thick.
Distribution: Santa Maria Basin,California.
Depth: Subtidal to deep water.
