Sponge: Encrusting to 1 mm thick. Consistency: Slightly spongy. Surface: smooth with volcano-like mounds with oscular openings. Oscula: 0.2 - 1 mm in diameter.
Color: Tan-grey. ? Alive.
Spicules: Megascleres: (1) Acanthotylostyles: 350 -418- 590 um. x 13 um. (2) Strongyles (many polytylote): 300 -423- 480 um. x 6 -8- 10 um. (3) Oxeas (with spined tips): 270 -332- 370 um. x 4 -7- 8 um. Microscleres: (1) Anchorate Isochelae: 49 -58- 65 um.
Skeleton: Ectosome: Detachable dermis with tightly-packed oxeote diactins and Isochelae. Choanosome: Acanthostyles with heads near base, and tips pointed to surface, and bundles of Strongyles.
Distribution: Southern California.
Depth: Deep water, 92 - 100 m.
Note: Oxeote diactins never seen in this group before.

Myxilla (Ectyomyxilla) sp. [of Lee]
Sponge: Encrusting, globular. Consistency: spongy and crumbly. Surface: smooth in places to rugose. Oscula: oval to irregular, 2 - 4 mm diameter.
Color: Alive: Buff.
Spicules: Megascleres: (1)Acanthostyles: 104 -119- 133 um. x 4 -4.5- 5 um. (2)Acanthostyles: 188 -224- 253 um. x 5 - 9 um. (3)Subtylotes- Tylotes: 162 -181- 205 um. x 3 -4- 5 um. Microscleres: (1)Anchorate Isochelae: 19 -23- 27 um. (2)Anchorate Isochelae: 30 -35- 41 um. (3)Sigmas: 58 -67- 82 um.
Skeleton: Ectosome: Thick. Large canals just below surface. Specimen covered with epizoics which have penetrated surface making ectosome difficult to describe. Choanosome: Loose reticulation and thick bundles of spicules with a dense overlay of random spicules.
Distribution: Central California.
Depth: Intertidal.
